ABOUT US

NANTAHALA OUTDOOR CENTER (NOC) CREATED THE FIRST WHITEWATER PADDLING CURRICULUM OVER 40 YEARS AGO.

It is a progression-based approach for learning the skills used by the world’s best competitive paddlers and remains a state-of-the-art program in today’s industry.

NOC’s instructors are not only proven paddlers teaching world-class techniques—they are also trained educators. They recognize students’ learning styles, and they use proven hands-on teaching strategies to create efficient and engaging learning experiences.

NOC’s course offerings and private instruction classes take place on the most exciting and beautiful whitewater rivers in the Southeastern U.S., where reliable water and mild weather offer year-round paddling opportunities. Our unmatched range of permits gives students access to the best rivers available for instruction, like South Carolina’s classic Chattooga River.

NOC remains the epicenter of American whitewater paddling, hosting the largest and most diverse set of competitive paddling events across four disciplines: slalom, wildwater, freestyle and stand-up paddling. In 2013, NOC hosted the International Canoe Federation Canoe Freestyle World Championships adding to our history in excellence that includes 22 Olympians.

NOC’s diverse course offerings allow students to select their desired challenge, value option & peer-group size. The iconic Nantahala River campus, with its on-site restaurants, lodging, river access & amenities is the best basecamp for a multi-day learning experience.
