5-Day Class II River Kayaking

Duration: 5 Days
Price Starting At: $800
Location: Bryson City, NC
Dates: March-October

The “bridge course” for paddlers advancing from beginner proficiency to intermediate skill levels. These paddlers are comfortable on introductory whitewater, have experience using paddling gear and equipment, understand paddling terms and concepts and have experience with flatwater rolling. Paddlers will focus attention at Nantahala Falls and will likely paddle the Tuckasegee Gorge, the French Broad and the Pigeon. Perfecting a strong combat role will be a primary goal of the course, as this is an indispensable skill for Class III whitewater paddling. Skills will include:

  • Scouting
  • Eddy Turns/Peel Outs
  • Ferries
  • Stroke Timing
  • Combat Roll

The course aims to advance these paddlers into Class III boaters, able to carve up Nantahala Falls and enjoy more advanced rivers like the Pigeon and Ocoee. The five-day weekday course will produce better results than the two-day weekend course as paddlers will log more river time with instructors. We recommend the week-long course for paddlers serious about advancing quickly.
