Class II River Kayaking provides students an opportunity to fine-tune techniques learned in previous courses. Participants will focus on increasing fluidity and efficiency while paddling, river reading, and river awareness. Additionally, this is the perfect “Bridge Course” for paddlers advancing from beginner proficiency to intermediate skill levels.

Prior to signing up for Class II River Kayaking, paddlers should be comfortable paddling Class I – II whitewater, have experience using paddling gear and equipment, have experience rolling a boat in flatwater, and understand paddling terms and fundamentals such as:

  • Wet Exit
  • Boat Based Rescues
  • Carving & Edging
  • Catching Eddies
  • Peel Outs
  • Ferries

The course aims to advance these paddlers, rendering them able to carve up Nantahala Falls and enjoy more advanced rivers like the Pigeon and French Broad. Perfecting a strong combat roll will be a primary goal of the course, as this is an indispensable skill for whitewater paddling.

We offer both two and five-day courses. The five day is recommended for paddlers serious about quickly advancing, so students can log more river time with instructors. Additionally, five-day courses provide an opportunity to test out the latest boats and gear – helping you determine what best fits your body type and paddling style.

Participants must be 18 years or older.
